Scars Upon the Earth: The Destruction of Wars
What difference does it make to widows, orphans, and all victims of war whether the devastation is inflicted in the name of dictatorship or in the name of democracy and liberty? The horrors of war remain the same—merciless and unforgiving.
In Destruction of Wars, I present the remnants of battle: abandoned military equipment, rusting tanks, downed jets, and forsaken vehicles—silent witnesses to histories that do not distinguish between right and wrong, only between those who survive and those who do not. War leaves no one untouched. It is never moral, never just. It does not teach virtue, nor does it inspire heroism. Instead, it carves deep, unhealed scars into the earth and the human spirit.
Having lived through multiple wars in Iraq, I carry with me stories, memories, and images that refuse to fade. This project is my way of giving shape to that weight—transforming trauma into art, testimony into critique. Through acrylic on canvas and linen, I depict destruction in all its brutality, yet paradoxically, I find beauty in form, color, and composition.
Destruction of Wars does not glorify war. It demands that we confront it—not through patriotic narratives or ideological justifications, but through the raw, haunting reality of its aftermath.

MAXWELL PEARCE - Artist and Harlem Globetrotter
Maxwell Pearce’s work emphasizes the multi-dimensionality of being an athlete and a total person. His textured mixed media pieces are often created out of sports equipment and shoelaces - which he believes to be the common thread between so many of us. His sculptures—each of which offers multiple points of view—maintain historical and contemporary references through inspirations like important people, moments, ideas, family members, and also athletes. His perspective as a professional athlete and an artist gives him a very unique vantage point. Further, Pearce intends for his works to act as form of social practices engaging society to reflect on meaning, material, and movement. #sdartadvisory #maxwellpearce #artofanathlete
