Scars Upon the Earth: The Destruction of Wars

What remains after war ends? For Iraqi-born artist Qais Al-Sindy, the answer lies in the silent, rusting remnants of destruction—abandoned tanks, downed aircraft, and twisted metal that speak volumes even in stillness.

In his newest series, Scars Upon the Earth: The Destruction of Wars, Al-Sindy invites us to confront the enduring trauma of conflict—not through ideology or nationalism, but through visual testimony. These large-scale acrylic works on canvas and linen give voice to devastation, mourning, and memory. They do not glorify war. They indict it.

Having lived through multiple wars in Iraq, Al-Sindy brings a rare personal truth to his art. Each piece is imbued with the weight of survival and the unrelenting echo of loss. Through haunting compositions and raw materiality, he turns visual narrative into protest, and personal history into a global warning.

This exhibition is a call to witness. It asks us not to turn away, but to look deeper—at what war erases, and what it leaves behind.
